First Lady Margaret Kenyatta meets former US president Barack Obama in Spain

- The First Lady was representing Kenyan delegation for the annual World Travel and Tourism Council's (WTTC) Global Summit

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Wednesday, April 4, held talks with former US president Barack Obama in Spain during the annual World Travel and Tourism Council's (WTTC) Global Summit.

Margaret was representing a Kenyan delegation in the summit that brings together world's travel and tourism leaders who share experiences and views on how to grow the sector.

During the summit, the First Lady met Obama and exchanged experiences on how to foster and bolster cultures and opportunities in the tourism sector across the world.

Margaret also seized the opportunity to market and promote Kenya's travel, tourism and wildlife sector to the global market.

"Pleased to lead the Kenyan delegation at the global summit, an opportunity to showcase Kenya’s impressive growth in the travel and tourism sector as well as engage with other stakeholders from across the world, to discuss ways to promote a sustainable travel and tourism industry," she said in a Facebook post.

Kenya's tourism sector has been recording significant improvement despite being hit by terrorism threats and turbulent political activities.

In a report released by Tourism CS Najib Balala in January 2019, the number of international arrivals in 2018 increased to 2,025,206, compared to the 1,474,671 in 2017, recording a 37.7% improvement while local tourists recorded 9.03% increase from 3,645,243 to 3,974,243 visitors.

The Spain global summit was an opportunity to market the country's industry to the highest level gathering of travel and tourism leaders from across the world.
